GREENCASTLE Rev. Donald McDowell Bohn, Sr., left this world to join into eternal life with his Lord on Wednesday, February 18, 2015, in Chambersburg. He spent 82 years in this earthly world, most of which was spent serving God, the church, and his fellow citizens. He was born on January 29, 1933, in Lemoyne. He was the son of Earl and Miriam (McDowell) Bohn, who preceded him to the eternal kingdom of the Lord. He was married to his wife, Sarah "Sally" A. Bohn, on March 6, 1954. Sally resides at their home in Greencastle. Reverend Bohn served as a Lutheran Pastor for 40 years. He graduated from the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg on May 29, 1958. He was ordained at Grace Lutheran Church in Highland Park just two weeks later on June 11, 1958. He had served his student ministry at Zion Lutheran Church in Harrisburg. Reverend Bohn's first charge was Centerville Lutheran Church from 1958-1960. He left Centerville Lutheran in 1960 when he accepted the call to Grace Lutheran Church in York, where he served for 10 years. On January 15, 1970 he accepted a call to Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greencastle, where he served until his retirement in February of 1998. Pastor Bohn's service to his fellow man began with the church, but it did not end there. On January 19, 1966, he was commissioned as a 1LT Chaplain in the Army Reserves, and transferred to Army National Guard later that year. He transferred to the 28th Infantry Division (Mechanized) in 1976, where he served as a Chaplain until he retired with the honorary rank of Brigadier General in 1993. Don was also a member of the York City Police reserves for eight years, serving as the Chaplain at their meetings. He served as the Dean of the Chambersburg District of the Central Pennsylvania synod from 1975-1977. In addition to his graduation from Seminary in 1958, Pastor Bohn also graduated from Lemoyne High School in 1950 and from Gettysburg College in 1954. Don loved baseball and football and was an avid Washington Redskins fan. He loved hunting and working in his yard. Don was an avid traveler and he traveled throughout the United States as well as internationally. He recently obtained the title of Laird of Glencoe when he was gifted with a lot of land in Appin, Scotland. Don loved spending time with his family Reverend Bohn is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Sarah Ann "Sally" (Keim) Bohn; two sons, Donald M. Bohn, Jr. and his wife, Lisa of Dover, Del., and Randy Bohn and wife, Kim of Greencastle; three grandsons, Joseph Earl Bohn (JEB) of Enfield, N.C., Donald M. Bohn, III of Philadelphia, and Travis Bohn of Carlisle; one great-grandson, Jack Bohn of Enfield, N.C.; and one granddaughter, Alyssa Seibel of Junction City, Kan. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 22, at 4 p.m. from the Evangelical Lutheran Church, 130 N. Washington St., Greencastle, with the Rev. Martin H. Horn officiating and assisted by the Rev. Dr. Clifton J. Suehr. The family will receive friends on Saturday February 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, and at the church one hour before the service on Sunday. Burial with military honors provided by the Dauphin County Honor Guard will be in the Union Deposit Cemetery near Hershey at 1 p.m. Monday, February 23. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given in his memory to the Endowment Fund of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, 130 N. Washington St., Greencastle, PA 17225.
