He was born on February 20, 1929 in Everett, the son of the late Grace Elizabeth Horton.On February 20, 1950 at the Barndollar Methodist Church, Everett, he married Geraldine "Geri" M. (Mellott) Horton. She preceded him in death on February 22, 2016. He is survived by a daughter, Dena K. Horton, Gaithersburg, MD; a son, Richard Horton, married to Rose (Hollingshead), Hanover; grandchildren, Douglas R. Horton, married to Jennifer, Kelly Rose, married to Nathan Baker, Nicole A. Spann, Timothy R. Swope and Ivy M., married to Jonathan D. Donnell; one great-granddaughter, Hazel Spann.Don was a graduate of the Everett High School Class of 1946. Mr. Horton owned and operated Horton's Sunoco Service and Horton's Supply Inc. for several years until his retirement in 1996.He was a member of the Breezewood Lions Club, previously serving as Deputy District Governor; he was a former member of the Breezewood Volunteer Fire Department, Everett Railroad Company Board and Everett Cemetery Association Board.He enjoyed fixing things, caring for his home, mowing, gardening and was famous for his onions. Don was an avid race fan enjoying races at South Penn Speedway in years past and Nascar Racing. Friends and Family will be received at Akers Funeral Home, Inc., 299 Raystown Road, Everett on Thursday, December 29, 2016 from 9:00 A.M. until the hour of service at the funeral home.Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at Akers Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert R. Robertson.
