Donald E. Blust of Tawas City passed away Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016 at the Iosco County Medical Care Facility, age 78 years. Don was born on Sept. 28, 1938 in Tawas Township to Andrew and Elizabeth (Ebert) Blust. He married Donna K. Simmons on Feb. 17, 1962, and together they raised their two children, Shelley and Steven. He retired from the Detroit and Mackinac Railway after working there for many years. Don then went to work for U.S. Gypsum and worked there for a number of years before he decided to step away from the work force and enjoy his retirement. Don was an avid hunter, golfer and softball athlete. He played for many years on local softball leagues. Don was also a member of the Knights of Columbus No. 2709 and a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church in East Tawas. He is survived by his two loving children, Shelley (Nelson) Simpson of Tennessee and Steven (Kim) Blust of National City; grandchildren, Amanda Erving, Josh Simpson and Justin Blust; one great granddaughter, Jasmine Simpson; one brother, Bernard (Donna) Blust of Tawas City; one sister, Veronica Gracik of Tawas City; two sisters-in-law, Carol Werth and Edith Blust; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. Don was preceded in death by his wife, Donna K. Blust, in 2015; a grandson, Gary Erving; three brothers, James, Harold and Kenneth Blust; three sisters, Grace Misner, Bernice Gersey and Dorothy Haglund. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 17 at 11 a.m. at Buresh Funeral Home in Tawas City. His family will welcome friends for visitation on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friends and family may also gather on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral. Interment will take place in Wilber Township Cemetery at a later date. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution are encouraged to do so to the family.
