Conrad, Diane N.Diane N. Conrad, 61, of Glendale, WI, formerly of Kiel, went to heaven on the morning of July 5, 2017 after a long battle with cancer. A fighter to the end, her spirit exemplified strength and courage, often represented by a lion. She was born on April 26, 1956 to parents Norman and Agnes (Hammel) Conrad, and grew up on the family farm with siblings Glenn and Lynn outside of Elkhart Lake near the Sheboygan Marsh, where she loved to fish. She graduated from Kiel High School with the class of 1974, president of her senior class. The first female in her hometown to serve, she served in the United States Army as a Recovery Specialist in the 4th Infantry Recovery Division from Sept. 19, 1974 to Sept. 16, 1977. She was awarded the Army Commencement Medal, and rose to the rank of Sergeant E-5. Diane attended college at the University of WI, Oshkosh, graduating in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science in Education and Human Services. A natural leader, motivator, and self-declared rebel, she worked at multiple schools in Sheboygan and Milwaukee over the next 20 years as a social studies teacher, a career education counselor, and an administrator. In Milwaukee she worked at the Learning Enterprise Vocational Training Institute from 2001 to 2005, and the Milwaukee Community Service Corps from 1995 to 2001. She had a strong, inclusive vision for her students and a passion for history. She began a new career at Home Depot in 2006 as a Department Supervisor of Hardware at the Good Hope store, working at Home Depot in the Holt location through 2017. She was a talented carpenter and crafted furniture for friends and family, including well-made adirondack chairs. Diane made friends wherever she went, and was always in the audience for her great nieces' dance recitals and concerts. She was preceded in death by her parents Norman and Agnes Conrad; brother and sister Glenn Conrad and Lynn (Conrad) Pfister; and her uncle and aunt Lyle and Jeanette Conrad. She is survived by her best friend Carmen Harrell and godson Aaron Ronelle' Harrell; niece Angela Pfister of Minneapolis; nephew Michael Pfister and Angela (Ninmer) Pfister of Kiel, and their children Lauryn, Kailey, and Logan Pfister; niece Shelley Conrad of Milwaukee; niece Pam Conrad of New York, NY; nephew Shawn Conrad of Sheboygan Falls; former in-laws and their spouses Donald and Diane Pfister of New Holstein and Bev and Charlie Harder of Plymouth; first cousins and their spouses Larry and Mary Conrad of Manitowoc, Lee and Rita Conrad of Elkhart Lake, Jenny and Glenn Hansmann of Kiel, and Janice and Gene Buchmann of Kiel; dear family friends Tracy and Bill Lappin of Oak Creek; and her pets Buddy, Button, Cali, and Fuzzy. Visitation will be from 10 AM to 12 PM, with a memorial service and military honors starting at 12 PM on Saturday, July 15 at the West Allis Church and Chapel on 7626 W Greenfield Ave, Milwaukee, WI, 53214. There will also be a celebration on the Conrad family farm in September.
