A great man

Dennis E. Holman 75, of Bardstown, and Milton, Fla., passed away Sunday evening, Nov. 4, 2018, from heart and kidney failure. He was born on March 19, 1943, in Hammond, Ind., but spent his youth in Galesburg, Ill., graduating from high school in 1961. He enlisted in the Air Force and was trained as a Russian linguist - eventually serving in the Security Services in Peshawar, Pakistan. During his working years Dennis and his wife were fortunate to travel extensively, both for business and pleasure. Japan, Sweden, Europe, Egypt, Africa and Brazil were destinations. After retiring Dennis volunteered for the Humane Society of Nelson County and eventually was elected to the board of directors. For the last five years, Dennis and his wife spent winters in Milton, Fla.
Dennis found his calling in sales, beginning with cars (which was a life-long passion) and in later years industrial sales of highly technical pneumatic tools. He retired from Kentucky Pneumatics of Louisville in 2008.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Royal Eugene Brock and Leona Clutter Brock.
He was united in marriage to Susan Lynn Payton in 1967. They had two sons, Eric, of Knoxville, Ill., and Darin of Battlefield, Mo. - later, divorcing.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 39 years, Gailyn Beadle Brock; six sons, Paul Swomley (Judy), of Largo, Fla.; Eric Brock (Mary Kay), of Knoxville, Ill.; Darin Brock (Sarahbeth), of Battlefield, Mo.; Ted Holman (Joyce), of Bardstown; Kyle Brock (Sheila), of Bardstown; and Kevin Brock (Brittany), of Lebanon Junction; a sister, Carol Sue (Suzi) Brock Fleck, of Fort Walton, Fla.; 17 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a niece and nephew; and several great-nieces and -nephews.
A celebration of life will be held in Bardstown and will be announced at a later date.
Memorial gifts may be directed to the Humane Society of Nelson County.
