Deloris "Dorie" Ann McDonald85, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2017 at IU Methodist Hospital Indianapolis. Dorie was born on December 29, 1931 to William H. and Nora B. (Riffle) Webster in Logansport, IN. She graduated from Washington Township High School in 1949 in Cass County. Her family and friends in and around Logansport remained an important part of her life.Dorie married John H. McDonald, Jr. in 1953. He preceded her in death in 1991. She was preceded in death by all of her siblings: Kathryn Davidson, Mary Austin, Howard Webster, Winston Webster, Ralph Webster, Margaret Mathews, Robert Webster, and Lynn Webster. She is survived by her children Sandra L. McDonald (Malcolm Jump), Indianapolis, IN; John H. McDonald (Rhea), Carmel, IN; Kerry E. Warren (Kent), Bloomington, IL; and Erin L. McDonald, Indianapolis, IN. She is also survived by her grandchildren Daniel McDonald (Tamara Mitchell), Bloomington, IN; Ryan McDonald (Michelle), Tulsa, OK; Kevin McDonald (Lillian Henry), Cincinnati, OH; Kristina Warren (Paul Turowski), Liverpool, England; and two great grandchildren Levi and Oliver McDonald, Tulsa, OK.Dorie became an R.N. at Methodist Hospital after graduating from the Methodist Hospital Nursing School in 1953. Education was very important to Dorie. To further her education, she returned to Butler University in 1966, eventually completing both her Bachelor's (1971) and Master's (1974) degrees in Zoology. She then completed her Ph.D. in Educational Administration at Indiana State University (1987). She taught in the Nursing programs at DePauw University and Indiana University. She received the Outstanding Instructor award multiple times. After retiring from Indiana University, she taught OR training at Methodist Hospital. After retirement, Dorie enjoyed the time she spent volunteering at the St Vincent Breast Center, helping out wherever she was needed.Dorie was known for her compassion. She never met a stranger and made everyone feel loved and accepted. Dorie had a wonderful sense of humor which endeared her to many. She always maintained a sense of wonder and awe about the natural world including rocks, trees, birds and plants. Her family was extremely important to her; family gatherings were always eagerly anticipated. She will be greatly missed by her family.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Audubon Society ( audubon.org) or the Indiana Forest Alliance ( indianaforestalliance.org). A life remembrance service will be held at a date and location to be determined.
