Wiegand Jr., age 76, of Manitowoc, died Monday, January 2, 2017 at Aurora Medical Center of Manitowoc County.David was born on October 15, 1940 in Two Rivers, son of the late David and Ruth (Hanlon) Wiegand Sr. He graduated with the class of 1959 from Manitowoc Lincoln High School. David also attained an Engineering Degree from UW Madison. He served his country in the United States Army operating a Microwave Tower on a mountain top in Germany during the Vietnam War Era.David worked for Wisconsin Bell for 15 years, then accepting a position in Austin Texas in Account Sales selling long distance until the 1990's. David was Vice President of Sales and made the million-dollar goal in sales four times with his sales crew for Level 3 Communications. He received the Theodore N. Vail Medal for noteworthy Public Service while a market administrator for Wisconsin Bell in Madison for saving a young boy on April 23, 1979 on a rubber raft off the shore of Fort Meyers Beach. He enjoyed playing in Tennis Tournaments representing the Army at West Point. His greatest memory was sleeping in the Ike Eisenhower Room and eating in the Great Dining Room. He did not win but was proud just to be participating in the tournament. David also enjoyed golf, computers, travel, watching golf and football on TV "Go Pack" and spending time with his grandchildren.David is survived by his life partner: Mary Jo Zellmer, Manitowoc; two sons: Douglas Wiegand, Austin, TX; David Scott Wiegand, Kewaunee, IL; six grandchildren: Kylie; Anisley; Mason, all of Austin, TX; Brennon; Cody; Maci, all of Kewaunee, IL; one sister: Darlene Jagodzinsky, Manitowoc; his cat: Missy who loved to sit on his lap, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents; ex-wife: Sandra Wiegand; one nephew; one brother-in-law: David Jagodzinsky.A Prayer service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at the Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home, 818 State Street, Manitowoc. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations would be appreciated in Mary Jo's name.
