Long, Sister David MarieSister David Marie Long, age 85, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, died Friday, January 20, 2017 at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc.The former Esther Long was born on December 1, 1931 in Cardington, Ohio, daughter of the late Murray D. and Margaret (Morris) Long. She entered into the Convent in 1956 and professed her vows in 1958. Sister David Marie earned a diploma in Nursing from Good Samaritan in Zanesville, Ohio. She served as a nurse/director of nursing at St. Francis Memorial Hospital, West Point, Nebraska; St. Paul's Home, Kaukauna, Holy Family Hospital and St. Rita Health Center, Manitowoc, Wisconsin; and Good Samaritan Center/Genesis HealthCare Center, Zanesville, Ohio and as a homemaker and volunteer at St. Joseph, Waukesha, Wisconsin. After retiring from nursing in 2001, Sister David Marie performed various tasks at Holy Family Convent. Since 2010 she had been a resident of St. Rita Health Center. She is a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity.Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; one brother and two sisters-in-law: Donald (Sandee) Long and Joyce Long; two sisters: Louise Ziegler and Doris Martin. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents: Murray and Margaret (Morris) Long; one brother: Harry Long; one sister: Avonne Long; and one brother-in-law: Robert Ziegler.Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Holy Family Convent Chapel, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Finian Zaucha, O.F.M. with burial at Holy Family Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc.The family will greet relatives and friends at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 24, 2017. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Family Convent Chapel. Friends may also call Wednesday morning at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
