ROGERSDavid "Sonny" L. Rogers, 86, of Daytona Beach, FL, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2017. David was born on June 15, 1930 in Staten Island, NY to Joseph and Anna Rogers. He was a retired watchman for the Proctor and Gamble Corporation, Miami Valley Research Facility in Cincinnati, Ohio. A
U.S. Navy veteran, and was a member of the world's oldest boating educational organization, the United States Power Squadron. He was a member of the Cincinnati Squadron for 53 years and for many years served as their photographer. During his years he achieved 44 Merit Marks. Merit Marks are only given once per year and they are awarded for service to the squadron. He had the Grade of Senior Navigator which means he had the highest education achievement possible. He enjoyed boating, photography (especially developing black and white film), traveling and loved the beach. Time spent with family and friends was cherished time to Sonny. In lieu of other remembrances the family suggests donations be made in Sonny's memory to U.S. Power Squadron, Cincinnati Chapter, c/o Donna Hoffman, Lt. Cmd., 86 Mel Lawn Drive, Ft. Thomas, KY 41075. Sonny was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Virginia. Survivors include 2 daughters, Shirley Litteral (Frank Hotze), Deland, FL and Suzanne M. Jones, Corpus Christi, TX; a sister, Joanne Taylor, Cincinnati, OH; 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. A funeral service to honor David's life was held on Thursday, February 2, 2017.
