DAVID E. BROWN

Lieutenant Colonel David E. Brown, USAF (Retired), died on November 11, 2013 in San Antonio, TX. He was born on November 25, 1939, in La Grange, GA. His parents were the late M.S. and Ethel Brown also of La Grange. Dave is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Emma Lea (King), whom he met in the 8th grade, dated through high school and married in 1960, in Memphis, TN. They both graduated from Havelock High School, class of 1958, in North Carolina. Dave earned his Masters Degree in psychology from the University of Memphis. Emma Lea was the absolute love of his life. They have two sons, four grandchildren and one great grandson. Their first son, David Jr., lives in Salt Lake City, UT. He has two daughters, Ashley and Bailey, and a grandson, Carter. Their second son, Gregory, and his wife Caroline, and their two sons, Carson and Landon, live in Corpus Christi, TX. Dave is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Billy Pope of La Grange, GA; and, another sister, Velvie, and her husband, Larry Foulks of Kimberling City, MO. Dave is preceded in death by a brother, Danny of Orange County, CA. Danny's wife, Lorraine, and their children, continue to live there. He is also preceded in death by a second brother, Marion, and his wife Virginia, of Tallahassee, FL. Their children continue to live there. He was very close to his brothers and sisters. LTC Brown served over 28 years with honor and distinction in the USAF, which began in 1964. His duties were primarily in training, education, and research. His first assignments were training new Lieutenants in logistics and procurement at Amarillo AFB, TX, and Lowry AFB, CO. Later he was assigned to the Department of Psychology, United States Air Force Academy, CO, to teach the USAF's future leaders in the behavioral sciences as well as leadership and management skills. From there he was assigned to Randolph AFB, TX, and served as a senior adviser and staff officer in matters concerning training and rehabilitation programs. LTC Brown was then selected for a faculty position at the Air War College at Maxwell AFB, AL. There he taught National Security Affairs to senior Air Force and select allied officers, and he was also a faculty seminar leader. His last active duty assignment was as a senior leader and supervisor of applied research in officer selection and qualification techniques, and in the area of advanced future training methods in fighter aircraft maintenance skills. This was at Brooks AFB, TX, where he retired in June, 1992. LTC Brown was a graduate of Squadron Officers School, Industrial College of the Armed Forces, Air Command and Staff College, and the Air War College. His decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with two Oak Leaf clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the National Defense Medal with one Oak Leaf cluster, and a number of unit and organizational special awards. LTC Brown was a long time member of the Air Force Association and the Military Officer Association of America. Since his retirement, Dave and Emmy have enjoyed extensive travel and leisure activities. Mostly, however, they have enjoyed time spent with their children, grandchildren, and great grandson.
