David Barber LloydKnoxville, TNDavid Barber Lloyd, age 85 of Knoxville, died peacefully with family at his side on Aug 7, 2017 after a valiant battle with cancer. Dave was born on Feb 26, 1932 to Irene B. Lloyd and Grover C. Lloyd in Rochester, NY. He graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Rochester in NY and his 40 year career as an engineer included work at Los Alamos, New Mexico and later at the Oak Ridge National Lab. He married his college sweetheart Susan A. Lloyd on Aug 7, 1954. Susan predeceased Dave by exactly eight weeks. The day of Dave's death would have been their 63rd wedding anniversary. Dave was a long time member of Fountain City Presbyterian Church where he served many years as Greeter, Deacon, Elder, and Stephen Minister. For five years, he made numerous trips with the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance team to restore homes and lives along the Gulf Coast following Hurricane Katrina. Dave was a master woodworker and he crafted countless works of exquisite oak and cherry furniture among many other beautiful pieces. He excelled in creating Shaker style furniture and woodcraft and he taught these skills to others with passion. Beginning in 1996, Dave gave generously of his time and talent by volunteering with the electrical crew at the Knoxville Habitat for Humanity. David is survived by son Peter and wife Ellen, grandchildren Matthew and Sarah, and by son Scot and wife Dawn, grandchildren David and Andrew and wife Sarah. The family would like to extend their heartfelt and most sincere gratitude to the many loving friends and church family of Fountain City Presbyterian Church who have through the years become a wonderful extension of Dave and Susie's family. In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored if donations were made directly to Fountain City Presbyterian Church (attn: Dave & Susie Lloyd Habitat House Memorial Fund). These donations will be used to sponsor a Habitat House in honor of these two wonderful, loving, generous soulmates. Family and friends will gather at Fountain City Presbyterian Church on Friday Aug 11 beginning at 6:00pm followed by a memorial service at 7:30pm.
