Lindsey, Daniel LevonMr. Daniel Levon Lindsey passed away peacefully on February 19, 2017, at his Montgomery home surrounded by family and friends. Dan was born on October 23, 1935, in Andalusia, Alabama. He graduated from Andalusia High School in 1954. Dan attended Auburn University where he majored in Accounting and was an active member of the ROTC program. At Auburn, Dan was involved in many extracurricular activities as he served as Treasurer and President of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity, the Superintendent of Finance of the Student Government Association, and as a member of the Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity. Dan was selected as a member of the Omicron Delta Kappa honorary, and he graduated from Auburn in 1958. Dan first joined the National Guard as a 17 year old high school student. Following his graduation from Auburn, Dan served his country for three years in the United States Army and for six years in the National Guard as an Army Aviator. On July 20, 1960, Dan married the love of his life, Kate Horn Foster of Brantley, Alabama. Following his last year in the Army at Fort Benning, Dan and Kate moved to Montgomery, Alabama, where he had accepted a job as a staff accountant with Jackson Thornton & Co. Dan earned his CPA certificate in 1963, and he was admitted as a partner in Jackson Thornton & Co. in April of 1965. Dan spent his entire 45 year professional career at Jackson Thornton & Co. He was truly blessed in his profession as he thoroughly enjoyed working with his many friends, clients and colleagues. He was an active and devoted member and President of both the Montgomery Jaycees and the Montgomery Lions Club, serving for many years as the Chairman of the Montgomery Lions Club International Youth Camp. Dan was passionate about his love for his family and extended family. He spent many hours with his family and friends at Lake Martin, teaching dozens of children to water ski. He was an ardent supporter of Auburn University serving as a member of the Auburn University Research Council, the National Auburn Alumni Association Board of Directors, the School of Accounting Advisory Council, and as President of the Montgomery Auburn Club. One of his favorite pastimes was traveling with his family all over the Southeastern United States, and especially to the Plains, to see Auburn play. Soon after moving to Montgomery, Dan and Kate joined Whitfield Memorial United Methodist Church. Dan served in numerous leadership capacities including Chairman of the Administrative Board, the Board of Trustees, the Whitfield Kindergarten Board, and the Methodist Men's Council. Dan was committed to assisting seminary students and was instrumental in helping to establish the Stegall Seminary Scholarship Foundation, serving on the initial Board of Directors. In his later years he was an active participant in the First United Methodist Church Respite Ministry. The love and support of the Respite leaders and volunteers profoundly blessed Dan and his family as he dealt with the challenges of Alzheimer's.Dan is preceeded in death by his mother Ollie B. Brown, his father William Robert Lindsey, and his beloved in-laws Edna Kate and Henry Foster. He is survived by his wife of over 56 years, Kate, his daughter, Molly Lindsey Powell, and son-in-law George Edward Powell, Jr., and his son, Daniel Levon Lindsey, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Genie Brock Lindsey, eight grandchildren, George Edward Powell III and wife Maura Powell, Andrew Henry Powell, John Daniel Powell, Owen Kalem Powell, Anna Kate Lindsey, Daniel ("Trey") Levon Lindsey III, James Etheridge ("Ridge") Lindsey, and Judson Newell Lindsey, and one great grandchild, George Edward Powell IV. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church Respite Ministry at 2416 W. Cloverdale Park, Montgomery, Alabama 36106 or the Stegall Seminary Scholarship Endowment Foundation at P.O. Box 241661, Montgomery, Alabama 36124. Dan's seven grandsons will be Pallbearers. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 23rd from 12:30 pm until 2:00 pm at the fellowship hall of the First United Methodist Church with the memorial service celebrating Dan's life at 2:00 pm at First United Methodist Church.
