Daniel Medel Chavez, 67, passed away on May 26, 2017 at his home in Las Cruces, NM. He was born on January 15, 1950 in Central, NM to Carlos and Gomecinda Chavez.Danny grew up in Central and left Central to join the job corp. After he left the job corp, he married Doris Muñoz in 1968 in Seattle, WA. Shortly thereafter Danny was drafted into the Army and served in the Vietnam War. Seattle was their home for 37 years, and they were happily married for almost 50 years. Danny worked for the Post Office as a diesel mechanic and retired after 37 years. Together they had 3 children. Daniel is survived by his wife, Doris Chavez of Las Cruces, NM; his daughter, Daniele Chavez-Curtis (Michael) of Seattle, WA; his son Dion Chavez (Annie) of Athens, TN; his daughter, Danette Gallegos (Albert) of Salt Lake City, UT. Other survivors include his grandchildren, Francine, Alicia, Melissa, Tony, Danny, Josephine, and Angus; his brother, Carlos Chavez (Esperanza); his sisters, Rosie Chavez (Rudy Luna), Consuelo Varela, and Diane Chavez (John Wind).Visitation will begin at 1 PM Wednesday, May 31, 2017 in Our Lady of Health Catholic Church, 1178 N Mesquite St, where the Prayer Vigil is scheduled for 2 PM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated immediately thereafter with Reverend Ruben Romero officiating. Daniel will be laid to rest in Kent, WA at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
