Worth, Texas.Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 14, 2017, 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Higginbotham Funeral Home, Cross Plains, TX. A graveside service will be held Thursday, June 15, 2017, 10:00AM at Cross Cut Cemetery in Brown County, Texas. Dana was born on March 20, 1960 in Brownwood, TX, to Louis and Delores Byrd-Richardson. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from San Angelo State University and went on to teach high school pre-calculus. Dana married Sam E. Balkum in November 29, 1992 in Las Vegas, NV. She loved history and was a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. Dana was also an active member of the Tarrant County Democratic Women's Club. Dana is survived by her husband, Sam E. Balkum of Benbrook; daughter, Katelyn Colleen Balkum of Benbrook; father, Louis Richardson and wife, Glenda of Stephenville; mother, Delores Byrd Magee and husband, Larry of Round Rock; sister, Jill Richardson Betts and husband, Lenley of Austin; sister-in-law, Teresa Glasscock and husband, Jim of Zephyr; numerous nieces, nephews and dear family.In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the , ( www.donate.diabetes.org).
