Clinton David Zollinger, our dear and beloved father, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008. He was born on Feb. 1, 1916, to William and Bertha Zollinger in Logan, Utah. He married Ethel Nelson on April 24, 1944, in the Logan Temple, and together they raised seven children. He graduated with his bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Utah State University. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and the Army Reserve, retiring as a major. In 1946, he began teaching at Davis High School and in 1964 was made director of vocational training for Davis School District. He built a state-recognized program. Clinton also served as president of the Utah Vocational Association. He loved working with the youth in various capacities. He served as district chairman in the Francis Peak Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He received both the Eagle Scout and the Silver Beaver awards. Clinton loves his Savior and was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served faithfully in many callings, including three missions, to the Swiss-German Mission, and with his wife Ethel to Spokane, Wash., and Frankfurt, Germany. He served as the first bishop of the Kaysville Fifth Ward, then as a counselor in the stake presidency to President Alan Blood and later to President Lawrence Welling. He also served at the Bountiful Temple for many years. He loved farming and continued to farm an acre of ground until he was 91. At the age of 89, he fulfilled a life-long wish and bought a John Deer tractor. He built his own home and three duplexes, and rebuilt several other homes. He loved life, his family, his friends, his church, gardening, traveling and fishing. He is survived by six children, Ruth Ann (Roger) Davis, Marie Woodfield, Richard (Lezlie), Martha (Paul) Hess, Karen Taylor, Ed (Edon) and Gary's wife Thelissa. He has 33 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his brothers Chet (Mary) in Logan and Dallas (Margaret) in Ogden. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Ethel, his sons Gary and Clinton Dennis, and a grandson Samuel Hess. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, at the Kaysville East Stake Center, 600 E. 200 South in Kaysville. Friends and family may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Lindquist's Kaysville Mortuary, 400 N. Main, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Interment will be at the Kaysville City Cemetery. We appreciate the kindness and care given to him by his friends, neighbors, ward members and caregivers.
