WILLIAMSBURG - Clifton Rexford "Pete" McDonald died suddenly on Jan. 21, 2017 at the age of 83. He was born on Sept. 28, 1933 in St. Joseph, Mich., and spent much of his life in Fort Pierce, Fla. In his later years, Pete enjoyed a home in Williamsburg. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, partner and friend of 44 years, Claudia McDonald, as well as his son, Christopher McDonald, daughter Corrine Ray (Mark), grandchildren Ryan Lacy, Lauren Lacy and Alex Ray, as well as countless friends and colleagues. Pete wore many hats during his lifetime, including that of a 26-year-old entrepreneur who founded Citizens Federal Savings and Loans in Fort Pierce. For much of his life he was also a marvelous attorney who faithfully defended clients suffering from personal injury, going through divorces and accused of crimes. He was a very generous person who helped countless people and their families via his pro bono work. Pete's family and friends will remember him for his "larger than life" persona, his honest and unpretentious spirit and his quick wit. Pete was honest to a fault and always told people the truth - even when it wasn't what they wanted to hear. Pete had three true loves in his life: His family, his work and the University of Florida. He was a three-time Gator who received his undergraduate, law and doctorate degrees at the university. His family will remember his passion for the school and Gator football, and the university will never forget his generous spirit shown through donations to the McKnight Brain Institute. A memorial was held in Pete's honor on Jan. 24, 2017 in his Williamsburg home. His ashes will be spread behind the site of his first business in Fort Pierce, Fla.
