Clifford "Walt" GarmonSanta Paula, CA Clifford "Walt" Garmon, 93, of Santa Paula, died suddenly on Wednesday, February 1, 2017. He was born on December 4, 1923 to Wesley and Nettie Garmon in Tulare, California. Walt also had a younger brother, Kenneth. The family moved to Santa Paula when he was 6 months old and he remained living in Santa Paula for the next 93 years. He grew up on the Edwards Ranch. Walt is survived by his wife of 68 years, Joan Garmon; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and David Philips of Santa Paula; and son and daughter-in-law, Cliff and Renee Garmon of Ventura. He also leaves behind grandchildren, Steven Gonzales and Amanda Gonzales-Van Buren; step grandsons, Ryan (Erica) Schmidt and Cameron Schmidt; great granddaughters, Bailey and Brittaney Van Buren, Brooklyn Gonzales and Henslie Schmidt. Walt graduated from Santa Paula High School in 1942. He enlisted in the
Army Air Force in November 1942 and was a crew chief on B-17s during World War II. Walt was discharged in February 1946 and returned to Santa Paula and worked for F.M. Pearce Co. for 37 years as a sheet metal worker. Walt was a past member of the Lions Club, an original member of the Men's Mountain View Golf Club of Santa Paula, and a member of the Missionary Church in Ventura. He loved playing golf, enjoyed photography, fishing and traveling in their motor home, especially with the Waylighters group. He spent 25 years working with Family to Family in Ventura, and also was a member of the Waylighters Council of Ventura Missionary Church. Walt was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Nettie Garmon and his younger brother, Kenneth. Graveside services will be held Saturday, February 11, 10:00 A.M., at Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery, 380 Cemetery Road, Santa Paula, CA.
