This obituary is administered by:

Cliff Travis, 89, of Anton, CO, passed away on July 23, 2017, in Fort Morgan, CO. Private family services were held Saturday, July 29th at the Akron United Methodist Church with Rev. Phil Vogels officiating. Interment followed in the Akron Cemetery. Bowin Funeral Home handled the arrangements.Cliff was born on January 16, 1928, to Frank Travis and Jennie (Johnson) Travis on the family farm north of Flagler, CO. He was the second child of five children. He grew up on the family farm and as a young boy. He showed a prize black angus steer at the National Stock Show and took Grand Champion in the Junior Division and Reserve Grand Champion in the Open Class. Cliff completed his high school in Akron, CO. While in high school, Cliff participated in boxing, which was a sport he enjoyed and worked for Uhlenhopp Grocery.Cliff enlisted in the Army in 1947 and was a part of the Fifth Army and was honorably discharged in 1948. He attended boot camp at Fort Ord, Salinas, CA, and was later stationed at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Hospital, Denver, CO. His duties within the Army included being a clerk typist, along with traveling the country by rail to escort AWOL's back to their base, as well as other soldiers elsewhere as needed by the Army. Cliff continued the sport of boxing during his service in the Army, which was a popular pastime for service men in the 1940's. After the service, Cliff worked as a mechanic for Chase Garage in Flagler, CO, before he began farming. On February 27, 1954, Cliff married Clydie (Williams) Travis of Fort Morgan, CO. Cliff and Clydie had four children, Coby (LuAnn) Travis of Sterling, CO; Joleen Carman of Akron, CO; Terri (Larry) Ellis of Loveland, CO; and Shelley Travis of Akron, CO. Cliff also had a daughter from a previous marriage, Cynthia Cochran of Florida.Cliff and Clydie moved to Anton, CO, where Cliff began farming. During his early years of purchasing his farm, he owned his own earth moving equipment and business and he was a very skillful welder. Cliff lived and farmed in Anton until his death. At one time, Cliff owned and piloted his own airplane and built his own boat. He had a great sense of humor, he was a passionate reader and he loved to talk politics and current events while smoking Lucky Strikes. As he grew older, he loved having his family around him and going to the fields and checking on the wheat or other crops.Cliff lived in a time where homemade ice cream was only made in the winter, ice for the summer came from the winter ice that formed over the water troughs and hard work was the measure of a man. He did not show his emotions rather, the love for his family was evidenced in his hands and how hard he worked for his family. Cliff was preceded in death by his wife, Clydie; his parents, Frank and Jennie Travis; and one brother. Cliff is survived by his children and their spouses, ten grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, two sisters and one brother. His family was very "lucky" to have had him in their lives for so long. He will be terribly missed.
