This obituary is administered by:
Chester Suver died peacefully at home in Anacortes, WA on April 4, 2013 of natural causes at the age of 89. He was born on February 14, 1924 to Eileen Pauline (Kelly) and Harry Albert Suver in Ellensburg, Washington. He is a descendant of some of the early pioneers of Kittitas Valley. Chet was an athlete at Ellensburg High School and soon after graduation moved to Seattle. A man typical of the greatest generation Chet was solid, loyal, dutiful and above all resolute and constant in his attention to family. He served in the Marine Corps from 1943-1945 participating in four Pacific landings on Kwajalein, Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima. Miraculously surviving, he earned a number of citations, one being the Presidential Unit. He was an active member of the Fourth Marine Division often traveling to cities around the country attending their national conventions. Chet also belonged to the Oil Heat Institute of America, Knights of Columbus and the Seattle Elks Club. After his discharge from the service Chet graduated from Seattle University in 1949 earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. He was an active member of the Sodality Club and was voted Treasurer his senior year. During his college years Chet worked for the Seattle Northwest Progress. His unwavering devotion to his faith and the Blessed Mother were paramount. Chet married the love of his life, Elizabeth (Betty) Sorenson in 1949. She was his steady companion, celebrating 63 years of marriage. Together they raised five children, tending and nurturing them with full and loving commitment. Whether it was their sons' soccer, basketball or football games Chet and Betty were there, rooting them on. He viewed with enormous pride the smiles and laughter of daughters and sons growing tall and strong. Rich with his caring they inherit and share a treasured legacy of boundless devotion to family. In the early 70's Chet founded Suver Oil Company, a home heating establishment serving the greater Seattle metropolitan area. He prided himself on customer satisfaction. On occasion during the cold winter nights he would receive calls, whether from a widow or single mom out of oil. Personally he would get out of bed to deliver heating oil, ensuring their warmth-often times without pay. Chet liked many things, the rich abundant active physical life–hunting the hills of the Taneum, Teanaway and Manastash and fishing the Yakima River, the colors of the seasons, and the smell of Earth. He valued and treasured the land. With passion and senses alive, he would say he was as thankful and blessed as any man could ever be. He leaves us with a heart grateful and fulfilled. He would discourage sadness and grief, choosing instead joyful shared memories kept alive. He now sleeps peacefully among the stars and awakens in eternity's sunrise and God's love and grace. He is survived by his wife Betty and daughters Sharon Suver-Jones, Barbara (Frank) Suver-Hansen and sons Stephen, Soren (Susan Schweller), and James, by numerous grandchildren Brandon, Heath Jones, Rebecca (Matt) Jones-Rose, Taylor and Asher Rose (great-grandchildren), Forbes Hansen, Lauren (Michael) Hansen-Lucky, and Christina Hansen, Jordan, Hayley, Soren Adam and Harrison (Harry) Suver. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother John, and sister Mary Geraldine Suver-Wood. Recitation of the Rosary in Chet's honor will be on April 14th at 5:00 p.m. at Hoffner Fisher & Harvey Chapel 508 N 36th. St, Seattle, WA 98103. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated April 15, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Church, 8900 35th Ave NE, Seattle, WA 98115.
