Toomey, Jr., 70, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 6, 2017 at the Lebanon VA Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.Charles was born on January 10, 1946 to the late Charles W. Toomey, Sr. and the late Dorothy (Myers) Toomey in York, where he lived for the entirety of his life.Charles was a veteran of the Vietnam war, having served proudly in the U.S. Army from 1968-1974, earning several commendations. He was a lifetime member of the Ninth Ward Republican Club, the Viking Athletic Association and the Veteran's Political Association (VPA) in York. Charles was a devoted Pittsburgh Steelers fan who enjoyed working in his garage and with his hands, repairing and rebuilding vehicles, woodworking and riding his Harley. When he wasn't lending a hand to one of many friends, Charles's favorite pasttime, by far, was spending time with his beloved granddaughter, Taylor. Charles was employed by Shipley Energy for many years before his retirement.Charles is survived by his son, Chadd E. Toomey, 36; a daughter, Amber L. Toomey, 48; and a granddaughter, Taylor N. Toomey, 10, all of York; a sister, Alverta (Toomey) Stough of Dillsburg; and a brother, Wayne Toomey of Wailuku, Hawaii. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Theda (Toomey) Leggore; and a brother, Dennis Toomey.Memorial services and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. KefferFH.com
