It is with great sadness the family of Charles Duran announce his passing.Affectionately known to his family as "PA" and his friends as Charlie passed away on May 26, 2017 at the age of 76. He was born on January 16, 1941. Charlie is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Carolina Duran. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 47 years, Lina Duran; son, Robert Duran (wife Cori); and daughter, Dani Alpers (husband Doug). Charlie and Lina have a grandson, Robert Duran Jr. (wife Judith), who he raised and thought of as his son. He is also survived by his sister, Ginger; and brothers, Artie and Raul. A native of Alamogordo, Charlie proudly served in the Marine Corp. After his service, he continued to serve in the National Guard and retired as First Sergeant after 30 years of service from both. Charlie had a love of life and an easy laugh. He was an avid bowler for many years, where he met many of his lifelong friends. He enjoyed all kinds of travel, especially if there might be gambling involved. His military service inspired Robert Jr. to enlist in the military and his enlistment allowed Charlie and Lina to travel to Germany many times. His greatest pride and joy were his grandchildren Desiree and Alex and great grandchildren Josslyn and Damian. Distance would not keep them from him. Everyday Josselyn would skype with him from Germany. These visits were his favorite part of his day. He faithfully attended Immaculate Conception Church. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten. He will always be remembered for his kindness and generosity.
