Charles Jefferson Bowersox Obituary

Jun 21, 1920 - May 19, 2013

This obituary is administered by:
Charles Jefferson Bowersox of Indian Head, MD formerly of Bradenton, FL died on May 19, 2013 at home in Indian Head, MD, surrounded by his loving family and with hospice care. He was 92 years old. He was born on June 21, 1920 in Rochester, Indiana. In addition to his parents Laura and Frank Bowersox he was predeceased by his first wife, Helen (Balmer) Bowersox, his second wife Patricia (Falconer) Bowersox, his sister Margarite Hollinger and son John Falconer. Survived by daughters Jan (Phil) Saal of California; Pat Wise of North Carolina, Sharon (R.E.) Gibson of Texas, and sons Gary (Linda) Falconer of Virginia, Joel (Sherry) Falconer of Texas, sister Betty Edwards of Indiana, brother Jim Wright of Michigan, brother in law Robert Balmer of Virginia, 19 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He served in the US Army and worked at the Department of Defense in communications. He addressed the Joint Chiefs of Staff during the Korean War. When he finally retired he enjoyed many years of golfing, bowling and beachcombing in Florida. In the last few years of his life he showed great humility and acceptance as his body started to slow down and he was unable to do many of the things that had made him happy for much of his life. May we all remember his great example as we age. Those are the facts. But that does not even scratch the surface of who he really was, what really matters. He was deeply loved and greatly respected. A man of his word, a man that could be trusted, a man of great integrity. If you were fortunate enough to call him Dad, Brother, Charles, Grandpa or even Gramps, well you were fortunate enough. Our lives have been forever altered and we will carry him with us for the rest of ours. We are all better people for having known and loved him. He lived with his granddaughter Helen and her husband Wesley Williams as well as great-grandchildren Chase and Chelsi for the last two years of his life. It was an honor for all of us to make our home his home too. Interment Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA on Tuesday, June 18th at 9 AM administration building, 10 AM graveside. Arrangements by Williams Funeral Home, Indian Head, MD.
