Apr 24, 2016 - Jan 30, 2014

This obituary is administered by:
Charles "Charlie" A. Robinson passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 with his family by his side. Charlie was born on April 24, l943 in Bozeman, Montana, the son of Andrew and Freida Robinson. A few years later they moved to Juneau. Charlie grew up in Juneau and attended Juneau-Douglas High School. After being "discharged" from high school Charlie enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Korea. Charlie attended Woodbury College in Los Angeles, California and earned a degree in accounting.During his summer break from school he met Judy (Thomas) at her high school graduation party and they were married the following summer on August 13, 1966, in Juneau. Two days later, they packed his parents car (on loan) and they drove to Los Angeles so that he could continue his education. In December of 1968, the day he finished college, they once again packed up the car (this time their car) to return to Juneau. When the ferry docked, they drove off and he went to work for Marshall and Vivian Erwin at Erwin's Supermarket on South Franklin Street. This was the beginning of a 46 year career in the grocery business. He was always grateful to Marshall and Vivian for teaching him the business. In early 1970, pursuing his ambition and following his entrepreneurial spirit, Charlie became part owner of Glacier Village Supermarket which later became "Super Bear". A few years later he and his partners began the building and development of Mendenhall Mall. Charlie was always very involved in every aspect of the business and continued to go to work seven days a week until the time of his passing regardless of the serious health challenges he faced. He loved what he did and he loved the constant challenge of running and growing a local business. He took great pride in being the last independent grocer in Juneau.Charlie loved to fish and hunt and was an avid boater. It didn't matter if it was sunny or rainy, windy or calm, he spent his weekends fishing and hunting with his buddies. He looked forward to the start of the fishing and hunting seasons each year and he was always ready for the salmon derby, especially the thrill of the old "canon" start and the race from Auke Bay to the fishing grounds. Over the years he traveled to Africa and went on several deep sea fishing adventures with friends.Charlie was a hard working generous man who was respected by all who got to know him over the years. Charlie is survived by his wife, Judy, sons Tom of Birmingham, Michigan, son Mike and his wife Kristen and grandson Tyler, of Juneau, and brother, Fred who lives in the Philippines. He loved his family. His grandson Tyler brought him tremendous joy and many much needed smiles and laughs over the last 5 years. He is missed greatly by family and friends. For sure, Charlie is once again out fishing, this time in the peaceful calm waters.A celebration of his life will be held in late September. Those who wish may make a contribution to their favorite charity in his memory. The family can be contacted at 3178 Indian Cove, Juneau, AK. 99801
