Carolyn was the youngest of four children. At an early age her family moved to Searcy, Arkansas because Harding Christian Academy and college relocated from Morrilton. Carolyn graduated from Harding Christian Academy and attended Harding Christian College for two years. In 1949, she married Homer Wesley Howk and in 1950, they started their family with the birth of Daniel Wayne, known as Danny. In 1951, a daughter, Fretta Louise, was added to the family. In 1953, the family moved to Abilene where they resided for a short period of time before settling in Breckenridge. Carolyn was a devoted wife and a wonderful homemaker. She was very involved with the church and participated in numerous activities, which included World Bible School (following the footsteps of her sister and brother-in-law who were missionaries in Germany and Austria for over three decades). She also was involved in the Mother's Club at the elementary school Danny and Fretta attended. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed canning and freezing the fruits and vegetables she and Wesley grew in their garden. She frequently baked and cooked for church members who were ill or who had lost loved ones.Carolyn loved nature and the beauty of God's creation. She started an iris garden when she and Wesley bought a house on 3rd Street and she later added day lilies from her mother's garden in Arkansas. Other hobbies included sewing, quilting, and listening to her best friend, Ima Jean, talk to her on the phone. When Danny and Fretta were in high school, Carolyn began working part time at ABC Printing, the company owned and operated by her husband and father-in-law. In the early 60's, her in-laws, Homer and Blanche Howk moved from Abilene to Breckenridge. Carolyn played a big part in lovingly caring for them in their later years. After the loss of her husband, Wesley, in 2009, Carolyn moved to the Breck Manor Apartments where she lived until August of 2016 when she decided to move to Grand Prairie to be near her daughter and grandchildren. While in Grand Prairie, Carolyn was able to enjoy several family birthday celebrations, the marriage proposal of a grandson to his now lovely wife, the birth of her sixteenth great grandchild, and Thanksgiving in her granddaughter, Jodi's new home.Carolyn's life-long passion was to see her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren follow her and Wesley's example in their devotion to Christ Jesus. Carolyn went home to be with her Heavenly Father on February 8th after being hospitalized for a lengthy period of time. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Howk; her son, Danny Howk; her brothers, C.L. Bradley, Jr. and James Lowell Bradley; and her sister, Ruth (Bradley) Hare. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Lesli Howk; grandson, Timothy Howk and wife Lindsay and their children, Reed and Reagan; granddaughter, Danna (Howk) Dowdy and husband Jarrott and their daughter, Allison. She is also survived by her daughter, Fretta (Howk-Crane) Nelson and husband Peter; grandson, Jeremy Crane and wife Maria and their daughters, Julianna and husband Ben Munoz, Josey, Vivian, An, Amelia, and Sasha; granddaughter, Jodi (Crane) Vera and husband Andrew and their sons, Christian, Anthony and wife Genesis, Gabriel, Noah, and Levi; and grandson, Jesse Crane and wife Taylor and their sons, Jaxon and Beckett.
