Carleton PiersonWest Des MoinesCarleton LeRoy Pierson, 92, of West Des Moines, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2017 at the VA Medical Center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Merle Hay Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family after 10 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home before the services.Carleton is survived by his two daughters Barbara Hildebrandt (David) of Windsor Heights and Beverly (Donald) Smith of Des Moines; three grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Anne, his parents, a brother and a sister.Carleton was born on January 31, 1925 in Des Moines, the son of Raymond and Wilma Vanfossen Pierson. He married Claudia Anne Woodruff on December 7, 1948 in Plainfield, NJ and returned to West Des Moines to make their home. Carleton was a semi- truck driver and enjoyed his days on the road traveling across the country. Some would know him as a walking atlas for his ability to get you to wherever you needed to go.Carleton was an avid reader and a loving husband, father and grandfather.Memorials may be directed to the VA Hospice/Palliative Care at 3600 30th Street, Des Moines.
