Bruce B. Stinson, 90, of Lake City, passed away Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017, at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester. He was born on Sept. 29, 1926, to George and Sadie (Ahrens) Stinson. Bruce graduated from South High in Minneapolis and went on to serve in the Army during WWII. While in the military he was trained to be a radio operator. After being discharged, he pursued additional training in this technology. He met Violet Hobelman in Kansas City while she was in nurses training and he was in radio school. Violet and Bruce married Dec. 12, 1949, in Leesburg, Fla., where they lived for a short time. In 1950, they moved to Bloomington where he worked at Honeywell Inc. as a research technician for 30 years. In 1978, they moved to Lake City where they purchased a farm in rural Lake City. Bruce and his son, Charles, established the apple orchard which is currently known as Oak Ridge Orchard. He was a member of First Lutheran Church and Lake City Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed working with the Boy Scouts and most of all spending time with his family. His lifelong love of apples is what inspired him to start his own apple orchard. He is preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. A Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, at First Lutheran Church in Lake City, with the Revs. Tim Ehling and Duane Holst officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Military honors will be handled by VFW Post 8729 and American Legion Post 110 of Lake City. Memorials preferred to First Lutheran Church. Online condolences can be sent to http://www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
