This obituary is administered by:
1951 ~ 2017Salt Lake City, UT-Brooke Yvonne Sagers, age 65, died on October 13, 2017, in Salt Lake City. She was born on December 29, 1951, in Ogden, Utah, to Dr. Paul
Smith Sagers, Sr., and Jean Leone Slater Sagers. We lost an angel when Brooke passed away.Brooke was the sweetest person anyone knew. She was always positive notwithstanding her challenges. Brooke was born with mental and physical limitations, so she worked hard for everything. It took her a while to talk, but she did it. To walk, but she did it.To graduate from high school, but she did it. To work independently, but she did it - for 30 years for the state of Utah. And to live independently, but she did it.Brooke was a peacemaker. Her greatest God-given gift was unconditional love. For example, she knew everyone's birthday, including great-nieces, great-nephews, and in-laws, which was no small task, and she would call each family member personally on their birthday. We will miss her phone calls, cards, text messages, and photos that she sent at random times throughout the year. Brooke loved the holidays, especially Christmas, and would give small gifts to each family member, which was a lot of gifts.Brooke's devotion to family was unparalleled. She went to every family event she could possibly attend, including baby blessings, baptisms, weddings, vacations, etc. We will all miss her smile and laughter at these family events. When these events ended, Brooke would always ask for a hug and a kiss, which we will forever miss.Brooke had a great personality. She was Elvis' biggest fan, owning all of his albums. She loved the beach, where she collected many seashells. Brooke loved watching Disney movies. She loved doing crafts. In her younger years, Brooke was a proud participant in Special Olympics, where she was chosen as Princess and won many medals.Brooke was an inspiration. Her parents and siblings were so proud of Brooke - as she overcame so much. Brooke's disabilities would inspire her father to dedicate his career to the handicapped, where he eventually became Superintendent of the Utah State Training School. While we mourn her passing, we are joyful that Brooke is now free of her earthly burdens. Her body and mind are now unshackled. As Brooke's greatest love was family, we are heartened with the knowledge that Brooke is now with her adoring father and a brother she has sorely missed for 46 years. Not only is Brooke now with her earthly father, but she will now forever be with her Heavenly Parents, and also her Savior, Jesus Christ, of whom she had a strong testimony. Thank you Brooke for making us a little more compassionate, a little more caring, and a little more grateful for the small things. We couldn't stop falling in love with you, Brooke. We'll do our best to follow your example of loving unconditionally, serving selflessly, and overcoming life's challenges while choosing happiness. We all lost an angel on earth, but we now have an angel in heaven. "He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways." Psalms 91:11.She is survived by her mother, Jean Leone Slater Sagers, her sister, Paula Jean Sagers Evershed (Roger), her brother Paul Smith Sagers, Jr. (Laura), and her brother Howard Andrew Sagers (Joanna), plus twelve nieces and nephews, eight in-laws, and 28 great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Dr. Paul Smith Sagers, Sr., her brother, John Donald Sagers, and all four of her grandparents.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 1:00 pm at City View Memoriam, 1001 East 11th Avenue, Salt Lake City, Utah, with a viewing one hour prior at noon. Interment at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
