Bradley J. CulbertsonYorkBradley J. Culbertson, 90, died November 3, 2016 at York Hospital. He was born on October 16, 1926 in North Codorus Twp., York County. His parents were the late Newlon A. Culbertson and the late Naomi Deveney Culbertson. He was the husband of Martha B. (Gross) Culbertson, who preceded him in death in 2008. They were married for 52 years. He was a graduate of William Penn High School in 1944, earned his Bachelor's degree from Millersville State College (University) in 1951 and a Master's degree in Education from The Pennsylvania State University in 1956.He taught at Mt. Wolf Jr. High School for three years, followed by 30 years at York College of Pennsylvania at which he served as an assistant professor for seven years, Director of Admissions for 16 years and retired as Director of Financial Aid in 1986.He served as a radio operator with the U.S. Merchant Marines during
WWII where he was awarded the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, the Pacific Theater Ribbon, and the Victory Medal. He also earned the rank of Corporal in the
U.S. Marine Corps, serving as photo interpreter during the
Korean War from August 1951 to July 1953. He was past Master Councilor of the Continental Chapter of the Order of DeMolay. He was involved in scouting for over 45 years, earning the Eagle Scout award and the Quarter Master badge in Sea Scouts. He was Cub Master of Pack 17 in Leader Heights, assistant Leader of Sea Scout Ship 17 at the YMCA, served as District Chairman of the Indian Rock District and was the first Chairman of the York Imperial District.He was a member of the Sertoma Club of York since 1969, serving as past President and was named Sertoman of the Year in 1976. He was also a member of
VFW Post 8951 of West York and was secretary of Korean War Vets Chapter 178 of York County. He is survived by two sons, B. Eric Culbertson and his wife, Linda, and Brian B. Culbertson and his wife, Isabel; and two grandsons, Adam Culbertson and Seth Culbertson. He was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Richard, and Newlon Culbertson; and three sisters, Eloise Seyler, Dorothy Barrett, and Ruth Bufflap.A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 11, 2016 at the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market St., York, with the Rev. Barbara C. Yorks officiating. Visitations will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2016 and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
