Billy "Bill" SteelCarlisle/Weatherford, TXBilly (Bill) Laughlin Steel age 87, passed away Saturday, September 9, 2017 in Weatherford, Texas. Funeral services for Bill will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Peterson Funeral Home in Carlisle. A visitation will be held from 6-8:00 pm Wednesday the evening prior, at the funeral home. Burial will follow funeral services in the Palmyra Cemetery. Bill lived in Carlisle, Iowa with his wife Carole for many years before moving to Texas 2 years ago. Bill was born on July 9, 1930 in Greenfield, Iowa to Vernon and Gladys Steel. Bill joined the United States Army and fought in the Korean War. After his honorable discharge from the army Bill worked as a machinist and troubleshooter for John Deere in Ankeny, Iowa for 29 years. Bill loved gardening, camping, dancing and spending time with his family. Those left to cherish his life are his wife, Carole of Weatherford, Texas; daughters, Debra Sanders and Carrie Corbett; sister, Barbara Batten; grandchildren, Matthew Sanders and Danielle Smith; 3 great grandchildren as well as several in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother James; 3 sisters, Betty Hazen, Marie Campbell and Mildred Gray; and granddaughter, Sally Sanders. Memorials for Bill may be directed to the .
