Bettylou ZitterkopfFebruary 23, 1932 - December 27, 2013Bettylou (Barnhill) Zitterkopf, age 81, of Pocatello, Idaho, passed away peacefully following an illness on December 27th, 2013 with her family and the love of her life at her side. She was born on February 23rd, 1932 in Hansen, Idaho to Charles Franklin and Coila Mae (Cummings) Barnhill.Betty was born in a dugout and raised along the Snake River Canyon. She worked in the orchards and farmed with her family beginning at the age of 5. She graduated Eden High School in 1950 with 16 graduates in her class. She met her life-long buddy at the age of 10 when he grabbed her hand saying that he'd walk her to school since the school bus was late. Not long after, he told her that he loved her for the first time, which made her giggle telling her mother, "That silly ol' Bob told me that he loved me." They've been genuine sweethearts ever since giving them 71 years of unforgettable memories. They married on March 31st in Eli, Nevada, settling in Twin Falls, Idaho to raise their family and later moving to Pocatello, Idaho. Betty worked as a nurse's aide in a local nursing home and also worked as a popular cook for Grace Lutheran School prior to staying home to be a homemaker. She was the "Mom" for the neighborhood and opened her home to everyone; she loved and fed all who walked through her door. She was well known for her fabulous pies and pie crusts and had the uncanny ability to create wonderful food with a thought in her head and an array of ingredients. She was a magnificent seamstress and crafted many costumes for dancers at Kasai Dance Studio, blankets and quilts for grandkids, among other projects. She was proud of herself for learning to knit at the age of 80, which was something she hadn't mastered with her other talents and enjoyed the challenge. Reading was a favorite passion of hers since she was a child. She enjoyed so many of the stories she read and there were quite a few, where she developed the skill for speed reading. She thoroughly adored spending time with her family which was most important to her - enjoying family camping trips, hunting trips where she was the camp cook, going to craft shows, cooking together, canning together, attending programs for the grandkids, getting together for birthday luncheons along with the usual frequent interaction with those she loved so much and who loved her. She was a hero in her children's eyes and in their heart. She was strong in her faith, worshiping at Grace Lutheran Church, bible classes, and participating in Dorcas Circle. She served as wedding coordinator for 20 years with the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. The members of these groups were a very special part of her life and dear to her heart. She was beautiful both inside and out; she was kind, forgiving, and had such a loving heart. She will be greatly missed, but has blessed us with so much during her time here on this earth which her family is so grateful to have had. It was a privilege having her as part of our lives.Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Coila, three sisters, Buryl, Lesta and Marjorie; and three brothers, Irvin, Albert and Lester. She is survived by her husband, Robert; seven children, Paula (Stephen) Larsen, Douglas (Carrie) Zitterkopf, Larry (Deb) Zitterkopf, Patricia (Wade) Semons, Henry (Delynn) Zitterkopf, Robert (Diane) Zitterkopf and Penny (Dirk) Wilson along with sixteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild.A memorial will be held at Downard Funeral Home, 241 North Garfield Ave., Pocatello, Idaho, on Saturday, January 4th beginning at 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.The family would like to say a special "Thank You" to Doctors Naeem Rahim, Fahim Rahim, Michael Haderlie, and the wonderful PD nurses at the Idaho Kidney Institute. Also, Dr. Leach and the nursing staff at PRMC, particularly nurses Josh and Page whom she was very fond of. Mom appreciated your compassion and those of you who made her giggle.
