Betty Jo Johnson passed away on Monday, November. 21, 2016 at Brooksdale on Mingo in Tulsa, Oklahoma.Betty Jo Johnson was born on June 28, 1927 in Dyer, Arkansas, the daughter of Berry Norris Johnson and Minnie Lee (Bennett) Johnson. Betty Jo was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Bain Bennet Johnson, and three sisters, A. Louvinue Sunday, Geneva Karbosky, and Helen Mell, one nephew, Leonard Peter Hale III, and one great nephew Eric Ottmar Kehle. She is survived by three nieces, Gayle Hunter Sunday Young, Jody Sunday Kehle, and Karen Sunday Cockrell and husband, Dan, one nephew, Timothy George Mell, seven great nephews, and one great niece.She lived much of her adult life in Eugene, Oregon where she was employed as an administrative assistant by Weyerhaeuser Corp. Post retirement she moved to Bartlesville in 1992 where she lived with her sister, Louvinue Sunday. She became an active member of the Bartlesville First Baptist Church. During her years in Bartlesville she joined Word Weavers and enjoyed honing her gifts as a writer of short stories. Throughout her life Betty Jo was a strong, independent person who dearly loved and treasured her family and friends. To be in her presence was to always share laughter and warm feelings engendered by her keen wit and insightful sense of humor. Following a prolonged illness, she moved to Brookdale South Tulsa where she passed away Monday, November 21, 2016. She will be forever missed.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in Betty's memory, may be made to the Word Weavers Group of Dewey, OK.Come and go visitation will be held on Thursday, December 1, from 9:00 AM-8:00 PM in the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home, 710 S. Dewey Ave. Family will be present to greet friends from 6-8:00 PM.Services will be held on Friday, December 2, at 11:00 AM in the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Chapel, Rev. Tom Cox will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Green Lawn Cemetery at Checotah, OK.Arrangements are under the direction of the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home.
