Bernice Anna Lillian Augusta (née Griebenow) DeGrave BURLINGTON Bernice Anna DeGrave, 85, of Burlington, passed away on Sunday July 28, 2013 at Seasons Hospice in Waukesha. Bernice was born on February 16, 1928 in Chicago, IL to the late Clarence and Otillia (nee Peters) Griebenow. She spent her early life and graduated from Roosevelt High School in Chicago, IL. On June 19, 1948 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Burlington, she was united in marriage to the love of her life Roman John DeGrave. He preceded her in death on October 2, 2002. Following their marriage they resided in the Burlington Area near Honey Creek. Bernice was a cashier at the Red Owl Food Store in Burlington. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Burlington. Bernice was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary for over 20 years, and a member of the Honey Creek Civic Club serving for over 50 years. She also served on the Honey Creek School Board. Bernice also enjoyed baking, but her true passion was taking care of her family and the birds. Bernice is survived by her three children; Linda (Theodore "Tater") Weidner of Burlington, Steven (Sheryl) DeGrave of Palatine, IL, and Linda Lee Freese of Shorewood, six grandchildren; Todd (Karen) Weidner, Christina (Jarmen) Czuta, Dan DeGrave, Dylan DeGrave, Cory DeGrave, and Austin Freese, and four great-grandchildren; Elizabeth, Katherine, Roman John, and Sarah Ann, sisters-in-law Eloise Griebenow and Ann Griebenow. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers; Clarence (Evelyn) Griebenow and Martin Griebenow. A funeral Service will be held on Friday August 2, 2013 at 11:00 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church in Burlington, with Rev. Kirk Lahmann officiating. Burial will follow at Burlington Cemetery. Relatives and Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the CHURCH. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church or Honey Creek Civic Club.
