Barbara Jean “Bobbie” Sipes, 71, of China Grove passed away, Monday, May 7, 2017, at Liberty Commons, after a short illness. She was born April 6, 1947, in Greenville, NC to Calvin Stephens Sr. and the late Janie Stephens. 

Barbara was a member of Genesis Baptist China Grove. She retired from Salisbury Manufacturing where her and her lasted husband started their own business, Sipes Flag Car Service, escorting oversize loads. She was a camping enthusiast and loved her family.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Charlie "Gene" Sipes. Those left to cherish her memory include two children, son Timothy Sipes of Charlotte and daughter Kathy Adeyinka of Las Vegas, NV.; two brothers, Calvin Stephens and George Stephens both of Greenville; two sisters, Margaret Stephens of Greenville and Carolyn Smith of Jacksonville, FL; six grandchildren, Justin, Tyler, Ana, Sammy, Christian and Hunter; four great-grandchildren, Gavin, Teagan, Arabella and Kida; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Service: Funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2018, at Genesis Baptist Church with the Rev. Gene Edwards officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation: Visitation will be from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Saturday prior to the funeral service at Genesis Baptist Church. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Genesis Baptist Church, 9710 Old Concord Rd, China Grove, NC 28023. Whitley's Funeral Home is assisting the family.
