Arthur J. Toppa Sr., age 87, of Oscoda died peacefully in his home on Friday, Aug. 29, 2014 with his wife and five children by his side. He was born on April 9, 1927 in Detroit to the late Frank and Edna Toppa (nee Clements). Arthur served during World War II in the United States Army. He later retired from the Detroit Diesel Allison Division of General Motors in 1988 and moved from Redford to Oscoda. He was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. Arthur enjoyed crossword puzzles, bingo and trips to the casino. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Anna; five children, Carole (Joe) Davio of Parkland, Fla., Arthur (Tracey) Toppa Jr. of Oscoda, Julie (Randy) Patterson of Oscoda, Mary Ann (Bob) Huddas of Simpsonville, S.C. and James Toppa of Redford; 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Derek Toppa. A memorial mass will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 3 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oscoda.
