This obituary is administered by:
Anna J. UebelackerAnna J. Uebelacker, 87, of Yakima, peacefully passed away at her home on February 16, 2016. She was born on August 29, 1928 in Yakima, WA to William and Elizabeth Merrit. She was raised in Harrah on the family dairy farm, where she learned a strong work ethic and a sense of responsibility. This shaped all aspects of her life, including the raising of her family. She graduated from Central Washington University in 1950 with a BA in Education, later receiving a Master's Degree and Administrative Credentials in Education. One of Anna's passions was to mentor and encourage others to continue their education and become certified teachers. Anna dedicated 39 years to education, essentially in the Yakima School District. She served as a teacher, a principal, Director of several programs, including Home Base, Follow Through, Teacher Corps, and ended her career as the first women Director of Special Education. Following her retirement in 1986, she was an educational consultant in a number of school districts. Anna met her husband, Don Uebelacker, in college and they were married in 1950. These 65 years of marriage were extraordinary in every way. The love and devotion they shared have been a role model and an example to many of a what a marriage should be. Anna was active in the community and dedicated her life to her faith, her family, her friends, and her profession. She enjoyed many hobbies, such as gardening, playing bridge, cooking, and quilting. She especially enjoyed time at their mountain cabin and lake home with family and friends. Anna accepted people for who they are and loved people, regardless of their race, status, or economic level. She had a great sense of humor, quick wit, and was always positive, even to the end. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Don Uebelacker, and their children, Morris Uebelacker, Andrea (Greg) Brizendine, Walter (Jean) Uebelacker, and daughter-in-law, Paula Fluegge, as well as 7 grandchildren (Sage Park, Adam Brizendine, Camas Uebelacker, Sam Uebelacker, Cortney Mathews, Hank Uebelacker, and Will Uebelacker) and 7 great grandchildren (Parker, River, Emma, Piper, Wyatt, Ryder, and Kade). Anna is also survived by her sister, Wilma Schanzenbach, and many friends and extended family.Visitation is planned for Friday, February 19th from 2:00-5:00PM with a Vigil Service beginning at 4:00PM at Brookside Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 20th at 10:00AM, also at St Paul's Cathedral. Private inurnment will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
