PITTSTON — Ann Veronica Salus passed away Nov. 8, 2016.

Ann was born on Oct. 20, 1916, to Mary (Swaderski) and Stanley Yakobitis. Ann's siblings, Anthony, Stanley, Della and Mary, preceded her in death. Ann grew up in Duryea and graduated from West Pittston High School.

Ann's life changed forever when she met her cherished husband, Bill "King of the Banjo" Salus. They married on May 12, 1936, and remained married until Bill's death in 1990. Ann and Bill moved into their dream house on 4th Street in Wyoming in 1938 where they lit up the neighborhood with laughter and good times.

Professionally, Ann was an accomplished cosmetologist. She dressed hair for many years, most of the time from a studio in her home. She was known for her generosity with her clients, making her services available at any time and even accepting spaghetti sauce, fresh produce and other trade as payment. Ann was a friend and confidant to her clients, who looked forward to simply spending time with her. Ann continued to live in her home on 4th Street until 2008, when she moved to the Wesley Village campus in Pittston. Here, she continued to spread joy to all the family and friends she touched throughout the years.

Ann's real love was her family. She was so proud of her son, James William Salus (deceased) and his wife, Susan; her daughter, Joan Ann Connaghan and her husband, Tom; and her youngest son, William Joseph Salus and his wife, Lena. Ann was also a loving matriarch of nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. We will miss her and we will always and forever celebrate the 100 years she shared with everyone.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at St. Cecilia Church of St. Barbaras Parish, 1670 Wyoming Ave., Exeter. Relatives and friends are asked to go directly to the church the morning of the Mass. There will be no calling hours. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Anya Linnea Salus Memorial Fund at the Ronald McDonald House of Wilmington, 1901 Rockland Ave.,Wilmington, DE 19803.
