A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 10:00 am at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Lafayette for Amer Courtney Fondren Jr., 84, who passed away Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Amelia Manor Nursing Home in Lafayette.Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, 355 Teurlings Drive, Lafayette.Father Keith LaBove, Pastor St. Patrick Catholic Church in Lafayette, will officiate.A.C. was born on May 18, 1931 in Birmingham, AL to the late, A.C. Fondren Sr. and Emily Lovelace. He went to Barrett Elementary School and graduated from Woodlawn High School in Birmingham, AL. He attended St. Bernard College in Cullman, AL and graduated from USL, obtaining a Bachelor's Degree. A proud veteran, A.C. served as a helicopter mechanic in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He worked as an Administrator for Houma Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce for many years. He was the Executive Vice-President of the Houma Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce until retiring in 1996. A.C. was a parishioner of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Lafayette.He was active in his community and belonged to the LA Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives, LA Industrial Development Executive Association, LA Regional Clearing House Board, Advisory Committee of LA Department of Commerce and Industry, LA Public Affairs Research Council, LA Association of Business and Industry, LA Retailers Association, and the Terrebonne Vo-Tech Advisory Board. He also received an award for Lifetime Membership of the LA Association Chamber of Commerce Executives. Most of all, A.C. loved spending time with his family and friends.A.C. is survived by his son, Fred Fondren and his wife, Lauren of Houma; four grandchildren, Courtney, Julia, Grace and Eleanor Fondren, all of Houma; three nieces; one nephew and numerous dear friends.He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Mary Demette Fondren; his brother, Arnold Fondren; his stepfather, Jack Lovelace and his cousins, Mildred Owen and Evelyn Pinkston.Fountain Memorial Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1010 Pandora St., (337) 981-7098 is in charge of arrangements.
