A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12:30pm until the time of the service. A private burial service will follow at the Northeast Louisiana Veteran's Cemetery, Rayville, LA.Alice B. Massey, 75, passed away on December 25, 2016 in Ridgecrest Nursing Home, West Monroe, LA. She was born on August 19, 1941 in Wisner, LA to William Dan Beach and Verdia Taylor Beach.Alice grew up in Wisner, LA and graduated from Wisner High School. She then attended Northwestern State University, Natchitoches, LA where she graduated with a degree in elementary education. Alice taught school in several states and in the Department of Defense Schools in Osan, Korea.Alice married Rastus Massey in 1960 in Wisner, LA. She met him on a blind date 60 years ago and they were happily married for 56 years. She was a proud military wife and 30 years of her life was spent supporting her husband and the families of the United States Air Force. She put curtains up and roots down in 33 homes all over the states in addition to the Philippines and Korea. She loved military life and enjoyed making lifelong friends at numerous military bases, but her husband, daughter, son, grandchildren and family brought her the most joy and fulfillment. The memories she helped make are more precious than any jewels on earth. She lived her life with grace, compassion and love ---- AND lots of hugs and kisses! Alice thoroughly enjoyed shopping with family and friends. Her motto was "Born to Shop". That motto was vividly displayed in various ways around her home and even on the front license tag of her car. She so identified her car with this tag that on one shopping trip she was unable to find her car because Rastus had switched the "Born to Shop" tag with one that had "Life is a Beach" without her knowledge. It took some effort for her sister to convince her the car that looked like hers, but had a different tag, really belonged to her. Within 10 minutes of arriving back at home the tag once again read "Born to Shop".Alice was an avid reader, golfer and bowler. She enjoyed fishing as long as someone baited her hook, took the fish off the hook, cleaned the fish for her---and she did not get motion sickness. She loved carnival rides as long as they did not go too high nor too fast---and she did not get motion sickness. She enjoyed traveling, visiting family and friends---as long as she did not get motion sickness. Alice hated motion sickness--- but despite her occasional need for Dramamine, we know she enjoyed this ride called life with her husband by her side, holding her hand until the very end. She will be missed beyond measure.Alice was preceded in death by her father, Dan Beach.Alice is survived by her spouse Rastus of West Monroe, LA; her daughter Teresa Franklin and son-in-law Greg of Chandler, AZ; her son Michael Massey and daughter-in-law Jennifer of West Monroe, LA; grandchildren Parker, Brooks and Dylan Franklin of Chandler, AZ and Falen, Reganne and Gavin Massey of West Monroe, LA; her mother Verdia Beach of West Monroe, LA; brother Douglas Beach of Wisner, LA; brother Gerald Beach and wife Sherry of Wisner, LA; sister Betty Dumas and husband James (Bud) of Leslie, GA; brother Walter Beach and wife Christine of West Monroe, LA; sister Jean Moran and husband Errol of Monroe, LA; sister Mary Coleman and husband Marvis of West Monroe, LA; brother Raymond Beach of Leslie, GA; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.Alice's desire, in lieu of flowers, was for you to give a family member, a friend, a neighbor, a loved one a hug and tell them how much they mean to you.
