Alice J. John1927 - 2013Alice J. John, 85, of Twin Lakes, Wis., died peacefully Sunday evening June 9, 2013, at the St. Lukes Medical Center in Milwaukee, Wis., surrounded by her loving family.The former Alice Jean Duffy was born on July 10, 1927, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of the late Martin and Fanny Johnson Duffy. Alice graduated from St. Patricks High School in Iowa City in 1945. She married Clarence John Jr. on Sept. 16, 1947. She went on to get her practical degree in nursing in 1971 and then her RN degree from Gateway Technical Institute in 1981. She lived in the Rock Lake/Trevor area until moving to Twin Lakes in 1963. Alice formerly worked for Hillcrest Nursing Home in Twin Lakes for 24 years and then worked for Midwest Home Care in Burlington, retiring in 1993.Alice was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Twin Lakes where, in 1996, she organized the first Grief Counseling Ministry and was very active in church activities throughout her life. Alice enjoyed bowling, bird watching, reading, crossword puzzles and traveling. Her favorite TV shows were Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Her biggest talent was remembering dates and timelines. She was also known to pull an occasional slot machine.Alice is survived by nine children, Cathy (George) McNeill of Wadsworth, Ill., Mike John of Twin Lakes, Wis., Deb (Pete) Gaertner of Mauston, Wis., Timothy (Lori) John of Twin Lakes, Wis., Bob John of Twin Lakes, Wis., Rock (Chelo) John of Santa Clara, Calif., Jim (Rita) John of Trevor, Wis., Jennifer (Jeff) Baldwin of Genoa City, Wis., and Chris (Barb) John of Los Gatos, Calif.; son in law, Dennis Skrypt of Twin Lakes, Wis.; 26 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; three brothers, Paul Duffy of Iowa City, Iowa, Roy Duffy of Pennsylvania and Warren Duffy of Iowa City, Iowa.She was preceded in death by one brother, Lester Duffy; one son, Patrick John; one daughter, Cynthia Skrypt and two grandsons, Jonathan John and Joshua John.Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday June 14, 2013, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Twin Lakes. Interment will be in St. Johns Cemetery. The John family will receive friends from 9 a.m. Friday until the time of Mass at the Church.
