This obituary is administered by:
HANOVER Alfred R. Billett, 87, died on Monday, June 29, 2015, at his home. He was the husband of Marian E. (Fissel) Billett. He was born on December 10, 1927, and was the son of the late Edward Billett and Elsie Kathryn (Resh) Billett . Al proudly served in the Navy from 1945 to 1948 prior to attending college. He graduated from the Pennsylvania State University and was always Penn State Proud. He obtained his master's degree from Western Maryland College. Al was associated with the Bermudian Springs School District for twenty-eight years, serving as the first principal of Bermudian Springs High School and later as a teacher at Bermudian Springs Middle School. An avid photographer, Al also founded his own photography studio, AlMar Studios, where he did portraiture and photo development and refurbishing of old photographs. He took and furnished all the photography for the book, The Wheels of Time, for the East Berlin Bicentennial. Al served as the Editor, and spearheaded a committee who wrote and produced The Wheels of Time book, documenting the history of the town of East Berlin. In addition to his wife, Marian, Al is survived by two daughters, Jacqui LeBeau of Spring Grove, and Di Hershey of Dillsburg; and a granddaughter, Kate Steele of Seattle, Wash. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael A. Billett. Following cremation, a memorial service and "Blue and White" Celebration of Life (show your Penn State Pride) will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 117 W. King St., East Berlin, on Monday, July 20, 2015 at 11 a.m., with Pastors George Scott and Fred Schilling officiating. Private interment of ashes will be made in the East Berlin Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 1016, East Berlin, PA 17316; or to the Visiting Nurses Association (VNA) of Hanover, 440 Madison St., Hanover, PA 17331. Al and Marian celebrated 63 wonderful years together. He is remembered, first and foremost, as a teacher, always instructing, young and old alike, to do the best that they can. He encouraged others to make the best of themselves. His guidance was highly valued by many young people and their families. He loved dogs and the outdoors. He was an avid gardener, hunter and fisherman. He spent many summers on a lake in Canada with his good friends, fishing to his heart's content. His family was paramount to anything else in his life. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him, including his little dog, Jake. Arrangements are under the care of the Feiser Funeral Home, 306 Harrisburg St., East Berlin, PA 17316.
