Stead, Alfred G. Sr. Alfred (Al) G. Stead, 86, of Mesa, died quietly after an extended illness on December 8, 2016. His family was by his bedside. Al was born on November 17,1930 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Master Sergeant in 1976 with 29 years of service. After his retirement from the Air Force, Al drove for Yellow Freight in the Phoenix area as a local delivery driver from 1977 until his retirement in 1990. Al was married for nearly 53 years to Sueko Stead (who passed in 2005). They lived throughout the United States and Japan, while Al was in the Air Force. They moved to Mesa in 1976 after Al retired from the Air Force. Al is survived by his three children, six grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. He was a devoted father, grandfather and a dear friend who will be missed by all who knew him. A Memorial for Al will be held at the Japanese International Baptist Church, 1101 S.
