Albertha Campbell Gathers Hunt was born May 24, 1929, in Charleston, SC to the late Edward "Top" Campbell and Elener "Alma" Pinckney Campbell.
She attended the Public Schools of Charleston County; Early in life, she moved to Savannah, GA where she was employed at Candler Telfair Hospital. Later moving to New York NY where she worked at the NBC building as well as in the factory district in the Book Bindery. Later when living in Salem she operated a small Home Daycare for several years.
Albertha was introduced to the Lord in 1960 at the Gethsemane Apostolic Church under the leadership of the late Bishop Nicola Green. She met and married the late Richard Gathers and upon his retirement as a merchant seaman moved back to Savannah, GA where she became a member of the Holy Temple Unity House of Prayer under the leadership of Mother Marie Burroughs where she served as missionary until she met and married the late Deacon John Raymond Hunt and moved to Salem, OR. Albertha, a faithful member of Free Church of God in Christ in Jesus Name, became an Evangelist and was later called as Pastor of Free Church Oregon under the leadership of overseer Bishop Stephen Fowler Sr.
She was preceded in death by her sisters Dorothy Sherman and Ethel Lee Brown, brothers Coleman Campbell and Moses Campbell, and Stepfather Sylvester "Yorkie" Jenkins.
Mother Hunt was a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who will be greatly missed by family, friends and church congregations. She was a loving, faithful servant of the Lord. Her faith gave her spirit and her life joy, as she embraced everyone with her arms and words. "Claim It"
Mother Albertha Hunt went home to be with the Lord Thursday, December 13, 2018. She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Michael Gathers Sherman of Savannah, GA and Robert Sherman of Salem OR. and one sister Mary Jenkins-Aikens of Ravenel, SC; three stepsons John R. Hunt Jr. of Thompson, GA Dennis Hunt and Stacy W. Hunt of Salem, OR. four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. And a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A visitation will be held at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service Tuesday, December 18, 2018, from 2-6 PM. Her life, love, and faith will be celebrated at Salem Mission Faith Ministries 4308 Hillrose St. S.E. Salem on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at 1:00 PM
