Albert J. Mendivil of Butte, Montana and Marysville, California passed away December 19, 2009. Albert was born on August 20, 1918. Albert formally resided in Yuma, Whittier, California and Tillamook, Oregon.Albert was the son of Bruno and Santos Mendivil of Yuma, and was one of 10 siblings. Albert was a veteran of WWII, and he was one of the brave soldiers that landed on Omaha Beach, during the invasion of Europe. While in the military he carried out his dream of being an accomplished musician having played and toured in France, Belgium, Europe. After the war he continued to perform with his own Band, Al and his Music Makers, recording several records and then one of his highlights was when he had the opportunity to play in front of live TV during the Big Band Era. Albert moved to Marysville, California in the early 1960's and worked as a Meat Cutter for Holiday Markets till his retirement. While living in California, Albert served on many Boards and Councils. He was instrumental in setting up the North Valley Indian Health Clinic, Inc. as he sat on that Board, he also sat on the Board of Directors as Treasurer for DQ Indian University of Davis, California. He was a former Executive Officer and Director for the California Indian Education Association. He also served on the Board of the California United Indian Council and assisted in the Promotion of the First California Indian Days. Albert was a proud member of VFW, American Legion, Knights of Columbus serving as 3rd Degree Knight and a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marysville, California. His favorite hobbies were cooking BBQ for the family, hunting, fishing and just being in the great outdoors.Albert is survived by his beloved wife, Alice, of 70 years; daughter, Yvette (Dave) Anderson of Butte, Montana, son, Rod (Kathy) Mendivil of Yuba City, California; granddaughters, Anissa (Eric) Leninger of Belgrade, Montana, Andrea Anderson of Los Alamos, New Mexico, Krystal Mendivil of Yuba City, California; seven great-granddaughters, Alicia, Theresa, Laura Leninger of Belgrade, Montana, Michele Woodward of Colorado and Michael Woodward of Wyoming; nephews, nieces, and cousins, many, many great friends.Cremation has taken place in Butte, Montana. Memorial services will be conducted at a later date. Donations may be made to the local food bank.
