This obituary is administered by:
Agustin Castillo TobiasSan AngeloAgustin Castillo Tobias, 86, of San Angelo, Texas went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016. Our loving Dad, Popo and husband lost his battle to cancer. Prayer service is at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27 in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service is at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 28 in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel. Interment service will follow in Fairmont Cemetery. Agustin was born on May 28, 1930 in Orizaba, Veracruz. He lived a very interesting life which included joining the military service for two years. Later, he became a traffic office for Mexico City, Mexico. At the age of 25, he chose to and successfully completed the efforts to become a US citizen. After moving to San Angelo, he met Rita -the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. They married on Dec. 29, 1963. He became an instant loving father of three children who adored him. His acceptance of instant fatherhood led him to work very hard to support his new family. One thing he was never afraid of was hard work. After several jobs at the rendering plant and other odd jobs, Agustin became employed by Gandy's Dairy where he dedicated 30 years of service to the company and received the "Achievement for Outstanding Contributions Made towards the success of Gandy's Dairies, Inc." award. Even after retirement, he continued to provide Gandy's with his services, as they valued him tremendously. Agustin did not hold a college degree of any sort. However, he was a jack of all trades that included, but was not limited to carpentry, paint and body work, mechanical and plumbing activities and anything else he could put his hands on. He often told the men in his family, "Don't be afraid to try anything" and he led by example. There were not too many years of his life where he was not taking on additional jobs to help provide for his family and up until his illness, he rarely turned down the opportunity to help anyone. Agustin was a practicing Catholic and was a member of Sacred Heart Cathedral where he attended on a regular basis. He was a man of integrity and would offer the shirt off his back to any stranger. It was not uncommon for him to provide food, clothes and money to complete stranger. He was the epitome of one who loved unconditionally, even when that unconditional love was not deserved. Agustin is preceded in death by his parents, (Daniel and Elisa Castillo); sisters, Elvira Chavez and Isabel Holguin; and son Nick Bermea III. He is survived by brothers Regino and Francisco Chavez; sisters Guadalupe Tobias and Isaura Chavez. He is also survived by his wife, Rita Tobias; daughters Sandra Bermea Flores and husband Willie, Debra Bermea Stewart and Melvin; son Hector Tobias and wife Linda; niece Lucy Jochum who he loved as a daughter; grandchildren Jolie Garcia (Andrew), Kelly Gomez, Bianca Leyva (Austin), Joshua Stewart (Tina), Vicente Tobias and Kristi Castillo. Agustin had nine great-grandchildren (Sierra, Leia, Isaac, Serena, Blake, Nicholas, Emily, Audriana and Jetson) who all loved their "Popo" for his caring and humorous personality. He also had one great-great-grandson, Jaylen. Pallbearers are Joshua Stewart, Michael Jochum, Johnathon Jochum, Vincent Tobias, Robert Hogeda Jr., and Richard Hogeda. Honorary pallbearers are: Nicholas Samaripa, Blake Bennett, Jaylen Flores and Jetson Stewart and Isaac Garcia. Our days will be incomplete without you Dad/Popo. We are comforted knowing you will be rejoicing in God's Kingdom. In our darkest moments, we praise you Lord.Family and friends may express condolences and sign the online guest book at
