Adelina Chavez, a lifelong resident of Las Vegas, went to be with our Lord on Oct. 24, 2016 at 92 years old after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was known as a loving mother, sister, grandmother and foster grandmother.She was born on May 8, 1924 in Tecolote, the first child of Manuel and Eloisa Chavez. She was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She was also a foster grandmother for many years where the kids and teachers all loved her. She loved visiting with her family and friends, gardening, loved to work with her hands, play Bingo and the casinos and watch novelas. She will always be remembered for her kindness, sense of humor, and her dedicated hard work. Preceding her in death are her children, daughter, Helen Lujan and son, Johnny Herrera; grandson whom she raised, Joseph Chavez; grandson, Peter Anthony Chavez; her parents; father of five of her children, Meliton Lujan; father of three of her children, Noverto Herrera; son-in-law, Ray Solano; and brother, Christobal Ramon Chavez.She is survived by her children, Flora Solano of Commerce City, Colo. and five children, Martin, Johnny, Ricky, Gina and Ray Lee; Dorothy Aragon and husband, Sam, of Las Vegas, and four children, John, Christina, Victoria and Joshua; Lawrence Chavez and wife, Andra, of Las Vegas, and two children, Jacob (Lawrence) and Crystal; Fabiola Sanchez of Las Vegas, and three children, Ben, Dean and Francisco; Gloria Trujillo and husband, Ruben, of Albuquerque, and four children, Ernest, Ted, Joseph and Ruben Jr; Sandra Belmontes and husband, Armando, of Dayton, Ohio, and three children, Armando, Paula and Manuel; son-in-law, Salomon Lujan of Las Vegas, husband of Helen, and children, Peggy, John and Bundy; brothers, Gilbert and Manuel Chavez; sisters, Carmen Gomez and Aggie Ortiz, all of Las Vegas; special friends, Mary Lucero and Flora Valdez, and 24 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and eight great- great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends.Rosary will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Funeral service will be at 9 a.m. on Friday at Our Lady of Sorrows with Father Douglas Mitchell officiating with the following grandchildren from each family as pallbearers: Martin Solano, John Lujan, Joshua Aragon, Jacob Chavez, Ben Mondragon, Ernest Vigil and Armando Belmontes, honoree bearers will be the rest of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Burial at Tecolote Cemetery with follow-up reception at Cornerstone Church at 2207 7th Street. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Gonzales Funeral Home.
