Ann Virginia Rasmussen Age 87, died February 3, 2017 in Tacoma, WA. Ann was born on July 30, 1929 at Seattle General Hospital to Dorothy and Myron Overacker. Ann attended Beacon Hill Elementary and graduated from Franklin High School, where she met her husband Albert Rasmussen. They were married on April 17, 1948 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Seattle. Ann's family were early settlers of Seattle, homesteading on Beacon Hill in 1833, and lives there still. She was a Duwamish Tribal Member and served on the Tribal Council for thirty years. Ann was a Girl Scout leader, a Mariner Scout leader, received a degree in Floristry and Horticulture from Seattle Community College, a member of Tacoma Elk's Antlers Astray, a member of Eastern Star, and became "Squeaky the Safety Squirrel" for the Tacoma Parks Department. Ann and Al were married for 68 years. They loved each other dearly and traveled the world together including visits to Samoa, Korea, England, Canada and the United States. Ann made a special trip to the Philippines for her granddaughter Christine's birth. Ann loved gardening, fishing, RVing and especially spending time with her children and granddaughters. She also loved music and dance. Ann enjoyed following James' bands and was a season ticket holder at the Pacific Northwest Ballet. Ann is survived by Albert at the family home in Tacoma, daughter Virginia (Timothy) Nelson of Montesano, WA; son James (Gayle, deceased) of the family homestead in Seattle; granddaughter Christine Nelson of Montesano; granddaughter Ashea Evans of Seattle. A memorial service will be held on February 26, 2017 at 1 o'clock at the Duwamish Long House and Cultural Center in Seattle.
