Harvey Layton Buchanan

In loving memory of Mr. Harvey Buchanan, may his memory be a blessing, who peacefully departed from this world in his Richmond, Virginia residence on May 7, 2024. Born on March 17, 1951, he was the beloved son of Layton and Maria Buchanan, of blessed memory.

Mr. Buchanan led a life steeped in compassion and righteousness. His distinguished career as a Mortgage Loan Officer, culminating in his retirement in 2016, reflected his unwavering dedication to serving others with integrity and kindness.

A devoted member of the Jewish community, Mr. Buchanan exemplified the values of tikkun olam, actively engaging in charitable endeavors, including his involvement with the Humane Society organization, demonstrating his deep-seated love for all living beings.

In 1973, Mr. Buchanan united in marriage with Sharon Buchanan, forming a bond fortified by mutual respect and love. Together, they nurtured a loving family, including their daughter Wendy Buchanan and cherished grandchildren, Logan Shields, Cabell Shields, and Henry Shields.

Beyond his professional and communal commitments, Mr. Buchanan found solace in his hobbies, including golf, fishing, and collecting vintage aircraft parts, pursuits that brought him joy and connected him to his passions.

Mr. Buchanan's passing leaves an enduring legacy of kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to his faith, family, and community. His memory will forever be cherished by all who were privileged to know him.

A memorial service in honor of Mr. Buchanan's life and contributions will be held at Walter J Manning Funeral home on May 12th, observing the traditions of our faith. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Richmond Humane Society in remembrance of Mr. Buchanan's commitment to uplifting others.
